

She was born February 26, 1943 in Skowhegan, Maine, the daughter of Leslie and Marguerite S. (Jones) Moody. She was raised on the family farm on the Beans Corner Rd in West Pittsfield until graduating from Maine Central Institute in 1961.
Joyce was employed by lawyer Lloyd Stitham and Norwock Shoe in Skowhegan until attending and graduating from Una’s Academy of Cosmetology in 1964.
After marrying Fred Allen, they spent one year in Schweinfurt, Germany and 9 months in Brooklyn, N.Y., until he was discharged from the Army in 1966. She opened her own Beauty Shoppe in Pittsfield in 1967 – 1987, when she married Clinton Elwood Palmer of Skowhegan.
During the 1970 she restored a 1929 Model A Ford with a rumble seat and owned her own motorcycle. She worked as a seamstress during this time and continued after moving to Skowhegan in 1987 until contracting throat cancer in 2002.
Love for her Savior lead her to Faithfulness in many avenues of church work including music treasurer, and visitations to elderly.
Knitting hats and mittens and many other items for craft fairs, the needy and making quilts for children overseas with medical problems was her favorite pastime.
She was predeceased by her parents.
Joyce is survived by her husband C. Elwood Palmer of Skowhegan, her brother Colburn L. Moody and his wife Ellen of Clinton: step son; Ricky Palmer and his wife Val of FL.: step daughter; Patsy Lovley and her husband Steve of Alaska: her two nieces; Debra L. Moody, Tracy Ewing and her husband Donald, one grand nephew, Brady Ewing all of Wappingers Falls, NY, many cousins, aunts, uncles, and special friends: Penny and Mike Abbott, Pastor Richard Berry and his wife Selma.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 12 McClellan St., Skowhegan, Maine.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 12 McClellan Street, Skowhegan, Maine, with a burial to follow at E. Skowhegan Cemetery in Skowhegan, Maine.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
