   Today Aug 8, 2012 was a real shocker, I made my yearly run to Norridgewock to check on my Grandparents and Uncles Graves, and then up to visit and old friend of 70+ years, I went to the porch and rung the bell no answer, some notes on the door, I went to the front door no answer, I said to my wife I think something is wrong, I went to the house were is sister Ruth used to live and no answer, I then stopped at the garage down the street and asked about Ellery and they gave me the sad news about Ellery and then on top of that about his wife. This was a bad day; I then went to see his brother Stubby and got up to date on all the sad news.
  Ellery I will miss you and Geneva, You were a great friend of many years, growing up together as kids, many good memories of those yesterdays, swimming in the river sometimes moving the pulpwood and logs floating down the river so we could swim, playing cowboy and Indians up on sunset hill what times we had back then, and when the School burnt and we went to school across the river in the old church. I could write a book about us and the old gang growing up in Norridgewock.
   I will never forget you my old friend, RIP and maybe someday we will met again on the big old rock on Sunset Hill and sit and tell each other stories when we were kids the best time of our life.

Very sorry to hear of your loss... I met Ellery once.. at my own father's passing (they were "cousins") ... I had looked forward to seeing him again as he possessed quite an upbeat and embracing personality...

There's alot of talk about angels these days and about all the things people say they can do. I like to think that angels are taking special care of Ellery right now, and I'm sure he's trying to straighten them out if they are not running heaven just right.
He was a wonderful friend and boss. We will surely miss him.

My friend I miss you so. Not a day goes by without you in my thoughts. We are holding it together don't worry, as I always would tell you"We have it covered Ellery Brown" just leave it to us.

Thank you my beloved uncle for showing me such love and respect over the years.  I will always remember our talks over the years.  May God bless our family as we journey on without our Godfather.   Auntie, Loyd, Debbie, and Randy my prayers and thoughts are with you always.

Dear Brown Family,

Our deepest sympathies for the loss of Brownie.  We knew Brownie for 4 years and it has been a wonderful experience!

We first met Brownie when we moved back to Maine from Virginia. I applied for a job with him and Brownie called one of my references. Sheila Libby! Sheila said I was a good worker but recommended my husband Al instead. Al had worked at Colby College for 11 years as a custodian and Sheila knew his work detail and history. Al did not apply with Brownie but Brownie called us right up and asked for Al to apply and he would love to put him to work right away.  Al was reluctant at first but once he met Brownie, he had a good feeling about it all. Accept for one misunderstanding last December, Als working relationship with Brownie was more than positive. 

The last time Al saw Brownie, he went to the house 2 weeks ago for supplies and Brownie was cleaning up the kitchen for Geneva. How cute!

Some of my best memories growing up was at Uncle Ellery and Aunt Geneva's house!  My mom would drop me off every morning before she headed to work so I could walk to school. Aunt Geneva would cook Randy and I french toast everyday:) Uncle Ellery would sit with us and have his coffee. He always put a smile on my face:)  I just loved his laugh! I can here it right now.  You just felt better about life when you were around him.  When my mother died, Uncle Ellery always made sure I was doing ok and we had the best talks. I am a very lucky girl to have had an Uncle like him.

I remeber the day my husband came home from his first duck hunting trip  our son Gerry and I was outside admiring Mike's first duck, then Mike got called out to a fire call and Ellery was going by and stopped in and asked our son( young fellow what do you have there Gerry being 5 years old says my Dad's first duck, so Ellery says DO YOU KNOW WHAT WE DO WITH DEAD ANIMALS!! we  put them in the ground  so Ellery had Gerry go get the shovel dig a hole ,burried the duck  ,just letting the head sticking out, made a cross (laughing his head off waiting for Mike to come home.) Mike got home and asked where is duck was and Gerry pointed at Ellery said we put it where it belongs. RIP Ellery we will never forget you Norridgewock Will never been the same without you.

I am heart broken over the news. I love you both. life will not be the same with out him. Take care of yourself .

We just heard the news and we feel so bad for you all. Ellery and you are part of our family.  Memories from Maine to Ct. and then back to Maine. He was such a great friend to have.   Please know we are thinking of you all.

We didn't know 'Brownie" well when this happen to my wife.  She was visiting with a friend in our home when 'Brownie' came to check on our water meter and he had with him a neighbor's dog.  Off they both went, so my wife thought, downstairs and then left.  Some time later in the day my wife went upstairs and found a dog's mess and realized that 'Brownie' went one way and the dog another.  Because we love dogs we didn't get upset.  We never told that to 'Brownie'.  I wish I had now since finding out what a great sense of humor he had.
  'Brownie' was wonderful to our children when they were growing up, but the last five years he has been getting to know our grandson. If he saw Parker he would go out of his way to talk to him about John Deere tractors, take him on his zero-turn lawn mower for spins around the lawn, and not too long ago he told Parker he could ride his golf cart on the lawn any time.  Every time  we went by 'Brownie's' house Parker would ask: "is 'Brownie' out?"  
 A great neighbor, but most importantly, a great friend.  We will miss him.

To our leader of the "Wild Hog Gang" we will never forget all the good times, especially the trip to the dairy treat on our golf carts. You lead the block party that kept our neighborhood together.  Always the leader that did not want recognition.  Today we recognize all you have done and how much you will be missed on Wade Street (poverty flats).

Brownie was my bus driver for many years growing up. sorry to hear about his loss. I have some great memories from those bus rides. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

My Uncle Ellery was only 11 yrs. old when I was born.  To me, in my heart and mind, the big brother I never had. It would be an understatement to say he enjoyed life. He took advantage of every opportunity to have a "gathering" whether it be with family, friends, or both. He loved to tell tall tales and "stir up the pot" now and then just to see what would  happen.  He'd tell you tale so tall you were sure it was made up or maybe not. He volunteered in his community wherever he lived. Help to raise monies for cancer, drove cancer patients to their appointments, coached little league, volunteered with fire and rescue, and I'm sure many other things I never new about.  He helped family and friends whenever  he could.  I slept over at his home during my last visit and during our talks he told me how proud he was of Lloyd, Debbie, and Randy and his grandkids.  He was proud of the business he'd build and could pass on to his children.  He said he and Aunt Geneva still seemed to be pretty happy with each other after so many years of marriage and was proud of that too. We'll miss you. Thanks for the laughs and the love.

Our deepest sympathy to the Brown family.  Ellery was a great neighbor to my parents and my boys remember how friendly and nice Ellery was to them.  I will always remember him saying they could not get into too much trouble down behind his house on the river bank building a fort.  Thanks for all the good times and laughter.

Aunt Geneva and "cousins," I will miss Uncle Ellery driving up my back lawn in his golf cart, singing at the top of his lungs.Uncle Ellery was so good to my Dad and gave him a golf cart to use so he could be a member of the "Wild Hog Gang." Uncle Ellery had a wonderful sense of humor and told many stories that one was never sure if it was fact or fiction or a combination of the two. He will be sadly missed by those, whose lives he touched.

We are all so thankful that we got to know Ellery and were able to tease him about his New York Yankees as he did us with the Red Sox. Thanks for everything Ellery. RIP.

My sincere condolences to the Brown Family Uncle Ellery has left me with so many memories listening to him whistle while he was outside working, helping make a cribbage board for my Dad for Christmas, and swimming in his pool even though we had one of our own.  I love you Uncle Ellery and your memories will last a lifetime.

Many will miss Uncle Ellery and remember him for his humor and Kindness. He lived a full life. On behalf of Woody Phinney, Scott Phinney and myself, we share your grief and loss of a wonderful man who put a smile on our lips countless times.
