

MaryAnn Vigue Shaw of Skowhegan died peacefully, on June 15, surrounded by her loving family at the Sandy River Center in Farmington, Maine. MaryAnn had battled Alzheimer’s for three years and is finally at peace with the Lord.
MaryAnn was born in Gardiner on July 6, 1935 and lived most of her life in Gardiner and Skowhegan. She attended University of Maine at Farmington and graduated with a degree in education.
She taught school in SAD #54 for over thirty years. MaryAnn’s love for instructing her students was obvious in her unconventional and exuberant methods to get them to learn.
In addition to teaching, MaryAnn was a member of Notre’ Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church and the Daughter’s of Isabella. She also guided many Girl Scout troops.
During her retirement she enjoyed spending time at the Ocean, and even got to travel with her beloved husband, Robert Shaw.
MaryAnn is survived by her husband Robert Shaw of Skowhegan, her brother John Cronkite and wife Naomi and daughter Erika of Palo Alto California; daughters; Angela Schaeffer and her husband Matthew and granddaughters Vanessa Schaeffer and Gabriella Martin of Norridgewock; daughter Sherri Vigue and her husband John Ackley of Skowhegan; daughter Laurie Bubar and her husband Roger and grandchildren Daniel Vigue, Benjamin Bubar, Levi Bubar, and Katie Bubar of Industry and great-grandchildren Melody and Summer; daughter Brenda Shalel Way and grandson Brefney Way; step-daughter Kathy Curtis and her husband Carlton; and special family friends Erica, Anessa, and Isaiah McGann and Jason and Joshua Waugh of Canaan.
MaryAnn was predeceased by her first husband; Lawrence J. Vigue and her father Clayton W. Cronkite and her mother Edna M. (Daley) Cronkite.
Visiting hours will be Sunday June 21st from 5-7 at Smart and Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Notre’ Dame de Lourdes Church, Water St., Skowhegan on Monday June 22nd at 10 a.m. Her burial will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta on Wednesday July 1st at 9:00 a.m.
