Rita Mae Provost

Rita M. Provost, 71, of Skowhegan, peacefully passed away after a short but courageous battle with cancer Wednesday, September 30, 2015, with her husband and her girls by her side in Skowhegan, Maine.

She was born June 13, 1944 in Waterville, Maine, the daughter of Orman and Laura (Pray) McGee.

Rita graduated from Skowhegan High School in the class of 1962.

She married the love of her life, James Provost on November 16, 1962 in Skowhegan, Maine.

She worked for Norrwock Shoe Company, TicTac Toe Shoe Company, and New Balance for 20 plus years. Then she worked at McDonalds for several years, retiring in the mid 90’s to help care for her three grandchildren.

She enjoyed her summer home at Augusta West Kampground in Winthrop for 17 years and made wonderful friends there and considered them an extension of her family. She also enjoyed fishing; snowmobiling, dancing, reading, doing word searches, and puzzle books.

Rita was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; she loved spending time with her family and her beloved dog “Beau”.

She is survived by her husband Jim of 53 years of Skowhegan; her daughter, Debora Barter, husband Michael, her daughter Wendy Parlin, and Kris Laney, her three grandchildren, AJ Barter, Whitney Parlin and son Mason, Brian Parlin and Kelsie Audi.

Rita is also survived by her sister Marion Viosiene of Lincoln.

She was predeceased by her parents.

There will be no visiting hours per her request.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday October 7, 2015 at 1p.m. at the Skowhegan Federated Church, Island Ave., Skowhegan, Maine with burial to follow at the Southside Cemetery in Skowhegan, Maine.

The family would like to express our sincerest thanks to the outstanding care Rita received while she was at Redington Fairview General Hospital.
