Retired Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army, Rizwan Nomani of Norridgewock passed away June 6, 2016 after a long battle with heart disease. His loss leaves a huge void for those who loved him. Family was always the center of his being, and he was the pillar of theirs.
Riz, as he was known to many close to him, valued hard work, self-discipline, and education, and he passed these values on to his children and grandchildren. Riz loved this beautiful country and felt honored to serve it with years of devoted military service. He served in the United States, Vietnam and Europe, receiving many decorations and commendations along the way. These included a Bronze Star with 2 oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Joint Service Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, and the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster.
Riz is survived by his loving wife, Louise, daughters Tanya O’Connor, Deborah Nomani Dodge, and Lara Nomani; granddaughters Madeleine O’Connor and Evelyn Dodge and many extended family members near and far. He loved them all.
A graveside service with military honors will take place at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Rd., Augusta on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
