He was born in Dexter, Maine, on April 30, 1927, the son of Joseph M. and Victoria (Emmonds) Stewart.
At 17 years old, he enlisted in the US Navy and received an honorable discharge one year later at the end of the war as a WWII Veteran. He returned to Skowhegan Area High School to finish his last year, graduating in 1946.
He worked for Medwed Footwear as a leather buyer and purchasing agent until he retired in 1972 to start his own electric business. He continued to work as owner and operator of Stewart Electric for several years until his retirement.
He became ill in 2007 and spent his last five years living at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home in Skowhegan, where he was cared for by many very special people, too many to mention; and where his wife, Esther, felt like part of the “Ridge” family of caregivers.
Ted is survived by his wife of 62 years, Esther Stewart of Skowhegan, his two daughters, Kathy Kilkenny and her husband Sheldon of Madison, Rachael Streifel and her husband Tom of W. Palm Beach, FL, and his beloved, only grandson Adam Streifel of Gainesville, FL.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Cemetery, North Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
Donations may be made in Ted’s memory to the charity of one’s choice in Ted’s name.
