Viola was born in Caribou, Maine, on July 26, 1921, the daughter of Athanase and Laura (Picard) Violette. In 1922, the family moved to Skowhegan, where she graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1938. She then attended Lawrence Academy of Beauty Culture in Lawrence, Massachusetts, graduating in 1940. Upon returning to Skowhegan, she worked as a hairdresser and eventually opened her own salon at home, Viola's Beauty Shop.
On August 30, 1947, she married Joseph E. Morin, of Skowhegan, and together they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with family and friends a few months before his passing on December 29, 1972.
Mrs. Morin was a communicant of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church and was very proud to have earned her 70-year pin as a member of the Daughters of Isabella Circle #441. She was also a member of the American Hairdressers Association.
She enjoyed knitting, ceramics, attending plays at Lakewood Theater, watching baseball and football games, attending high school class reunions, playing Bingo (at which she was incredibly lucky), completing jigsaw puzzles, and teasing and joking with her son-in-law, Bruce. Also, she enjoyed attending hairdressers' shows and conventions and traveling to Canada, the White Mountains, New York City, Washington DC, and Florida.
She is survived by three daughters, Suzanne Ronan and husband, David, of Oakland, Pauline Lyons, and husband, Bruce, of Standish, Louise Morin and partner, Greg Willet, of Athens; and one son, Denis Morin of Skowhegan; five grandchildren, Cheri Ronan, Jonathan Ronan and wife Alyza, Michael Morin, Matthew Morin, and Marcus Morin; twin great-grandchildren, Izabella and Christopher Ronan; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by sisters, Yvonne Lagasse, Lillian King, Prudence LeClair, Anne Goodwin, and Sandy Gallant, and brothers Ludger Violette, and Fred Violette.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Viola will always be remembered as a giving person who put the needs of others before her own.
Her family would like to extend a special thank you to June Marshall for her years of loving, personal care, Dr. Roland Knausenberger and staff, the staff and caregivers at Woodlands Assisted Living, and the staff at Lakewood Continuing Care Center.
