

William (Bill) O. Libby Sr., 83, of Hartland and previously of Anson, Maine, passed away peacefully went home to be with the Lord, Sunday November 17, 2013, in Hartland, Maine, after a long battle of Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born May 7, 1930 in Norridgewock, Maine, the son of Florence (Jones) and Oscar Libby.
For more than twenty years, Bill worked for Merle Lloyd and Sons of Anson. He was one of the best heavy equipment operators during his career. Over the years he also worked for the Towns of Madison and Anson. He was a diligent worker.
Bill lived in Anson, before moving to Hartland to the Sanfield Living Center where he has lived the past two years. The staff at the Living Center made Bill’s life with Alzheimer’s as comfortable as possible. They treated him like family always talking and joking with him. The family would like to thank the staff for the love they gave to Bill always making him feel special.
Bill had many friends and a remarkable sense of humor, anyone who knew him loved him.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, dancing, and his Ford Pickup trucks. He loved the camping and fishing trips he took with friends and family Virgil Oliver and his wife Diane, Erlon Perkins and his wife Anita and Charlie Bishop and his wife Ruth.
Bill will be lovingly missed by his family and his friend of many years, Ruth Hardy and her family.
He is survived by his ten children; Bill Libby Jr. and his wife Tina of Anson, Betty Black and her husband Mike of Anson, Betsey Stevens and her husband Donald of Skowhegan, David Libby and his wife Ila of Skowhegan, Bob Libby of Augusta, Mike Libby and his wife Kelley Stetson, Terry Libby of Skowhegan, Tim Libby and his wife Cheryl of RI, Dave Libby and his wife Gwen of Hebron, Willis Libby and his wife Bobbie of Norridgewock, twenty-eight grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, two brother in-laws; Erlon Perkins and his wife Anita of Anson, Charlie Bishop and his wife Ruth of Bucksport, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friends; Virgil Oliver and his wife Diane of Madison.
He was predeceased by his wife Dolline, daughter Sherry Libby, his parents and his five siblings.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday November 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison, Maine, with Rev. Peter Campbell of the Church of Faith of Skowhegan, will be officiating. To follow there will be a gathering at the Legion Hall in Madison for family and friends from 12 to 3 p.m. to share your cherished memories of Bill for all to share.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
