Calvin William Vanassche

Calvin William Vanassche was born July 12, 1925, to Peter and Karen Bong Olsen Vanassche in Arlington, Washington and went to be with Jesus on the morning of December 26, 2021.

From High School Cal joined the U.S. Army where he earned the rank of Sergeant and served four years. Cal met June Olson through mutual friends, and they were married on his birthday in 1947. Together they raised 13 children in Snohomish, WA. This became a growing legacy of 35 grandchildren and 61+ great grandchildren. After June’s passing 26 years ago, Cal was determined to hold their family together. He loved hosting corn feeds and found great joy in celebrating friends and family. Life was good, good, good. Cal’s career spanned 38 years at Standard Oil, but most remember his tractor service and hay hauling, employing many young people in the area. He was still mowing fields this past summer. We will always remember his heartfelt hugs and larger than life greetings: “Good Evening” and “Good Morning”.

He is preceded in death by his Wife of 48 years, June Olson Vanassche, infant Daughter Carolyn, eldest Son Ken Vanassche, Grandson Dez Vanassche, infant Great-granddaughter Morgan Vanassche, Sisters Jennie Anderson, Esther Bergan, Crystal Terwey, and Brother Walter Vanassche.

His work ethic and love of family is woven deep and carried on in his surviving Children; Virginia Arnold (Tony) of Tucson, AZ, Rod Vanassche (Gail) of Largo, FL, Margaret Griffith (Rick Throm) of Snohomish, WA, Lorelle Berkey (Walter), of Hilo, HI, Mary Pat Malgesini (John) of Snohomish, WA, Janet Thibert (Lee) of Anchorage, AK, Keran Vanassche-Johnson (JD) of Snohomish, WA, Peter Vanassche (Jackie) of Marysville, WA, Barbara Appleby of Snohomish, WA, Steven Vanassche (Christel) of Chelan, WA, Jim (Joy) Vanassche of Chelan, WA, and Jason Vanassche (April) of Snohomish, WA. Grandchildren: Jessie Kindle, Vanessa Johnson, Brian Vanassche, Kati Clites, Benjamin Berkey, Joseph Berkey, Micky Vanhulle, Matthew Malgesini, Crystal Polacek, Candace Hammer, Mary Taylor, Johnny Malgesini, Anna Adams, Tony Malgesini, Janelle Roberts, Patricia Mackie, Geoffrey Faber, Carrie Guerra, David Vanassche, Arielle Swalboski, Abby Appleby, Nick Vanassche, Stevie Vanassche, Joy Jewett, Colton Vanassche Josh Vanassche, Jeremy Vanassche, Jake Vanassche, Jordan Vanassche, Madison Wartes, Gracie Vanassche, Trevor Vanassche, Annie Vanassche, and Tully Vanassche. As well as 61+ Great-grandchildren. Nieces: Darlene Strotz, Helen Egger and Nephew Tommy Ray Bergan

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

A visitation for Calvin will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bauer Funeral Chapel, 701 First Street, Snohomish, WA 98290.
