his 90th birthday. He was born to the late Kathryn (Forbes) and John Scott on July 25, 1931 in Colorado
Springs, CO and grew up in the rural town of Calhan, CO.
In 1952, he joined the Air Force and was active for 4 years, and then was in the reserve until
1960. During active duty, he was stationed in Guam and later in Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.
In 1955, he moved to Seattle, WA to accept an airplane mechanic position in the experimental flight
program at Boeing Airplane Company. He then started working for Alaska Airlines in 1959 at Paine Field.
Alaska Airlines is where Carl really thrived. He started as an airplane mechanic and worked his
way up to an airplane inspector position and retired as a lead airplane inspector in 2001. Carl loved his
time working for Alaska Airlines, and had a passion for flying. During his youth, Carl pursued a private
pilot’s license which he maintained for many decades, and also had pilot certifications in float planes,
airline transport, and multiple other engine ratings. This interest in flight was sparked by a neighbor who
owned an airplane, and even once landed the plane on the Scott property in Calhan, much to his father’s
irritation.
In 1971, Carl moved to Des Moines where he was a resident for over 40 years. More recently, he
was a resident of Everett for a few years. During his retirement, he was active in his Alaska Airlines
retiree group. He enjoyed seeing his fellow retired colleagues, and the group met up each month. Carl
never failed to miss these monthly gatherings to catch up with his old pals.
Carl is survived by his 4 children: John Scott of Snohomish, Terry Scott of Kent, David Scott of
Lynnwood, and Mary Robbins of Snohomish; 5 grandchildren: Kory, Mathew, Mitchell, Sarah, and
Michelle; and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 sisters: Annette Lippert of Coos Bay, OR;
Leona Tombaugh of Buena Vista, CO; and Rosalie and Susan Scott of Calhan, CO.
Graveside services will be held at G. A. R. Cemetery in Snohomish at noon on August 15th.
