April 9, 1938 - March 27, 2017 Darleen Janet Raines was born on April 9, 1938 to Bessie and Otis McCallister and died at her home in Snohomish, WA on March 27, 2017. She was a graduate of Snohomish High School in 1956. After graduation, she went to work as an Executive Secretary for the King County Executive's Office in Seattle. She subsequently married Ronald Bishop who worked in the Construction Industry and had two children, Rod (Rodney) and Shelly (Michelle). Her marriage to Ronald Bishop ended soon thereafter in 1964 and she raised her two children as a single parent until marrying Morris Nelson in 1968, who was a Foreman at Scott Paper Company. At that time, they moved from Everett, WA to Snohomish into a new home. After her marriage to Morris Nelson ended in 1974 due to his untimely passing, she would later marry Howard Raines in 1979, who was a Physical Education/Health/Drivers Education teacher and Wrestling/Freshman Football Coach at Snohomish High School and Valley View Middle School until his retirement in 1985. Howard would later run a successful landscaping business until his passing in 2004. The home that she moved to in Snohomish in 1968 would be the only home that she lived in the rest of her life until her passing. During her life, she worked several years as a Food Services Manager at Riverview Elementary and later worked as an Education Assistant for the Special Education Program at Snohomish High School until she retired in 2014. Later in life, she also enjoyed tremendously working in Ticket Sales for both Snohomish High School and Glacier Peak High School for various boys' and girls' athletic events. Some of her joys in life were the annual trips to Las Vegas with her husband, Howard Raines and after his passing, her day trips to some of the local casinos in Western Washington with friends and family. She also enjoyed her time spent at the Snohomish Senior Center and lunches with her "girlfriends" from high school. She was known in her neighborhood as the "lights lady", infamous for putting out different lights and decorations specific to virtually every holiday. Darleen was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie; her father, Otis; her brother, Pete; her husband(s) Morris Nelson in 1974 and Howard Raines in 2004. She is survived by her son, Rod Nelson; and daughter, Shelly Nelson; both of Snohomish. In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you make a donation to the Snohomish Senior Center. In celebration of Darleen's life, funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at G.A.R. Cemetery in Snohomish.
Arrangements under the direction of Bauer Funeral Chapel, Snohomish, WA.
