Eileen Beth Cornwell

She was born 11-15-1921 to Jess and Cleo Britton in Brainerd, Minnesota where she was raised. In the early 40’s she worked at Sand Point Naval Air Station, Seattle, where she met and married Henry Cornwell in 1944.

She was a devoted wife (64 years) and mother, with a special gift of hospitality, and knew how to love people from the heart. Eileen worked as a hostess of the Executive Dining Room at the Boeing Renton Plant. In the 70’s she became a certified cosmetologist, and was employed by the House of Edward, Seattle. Her big claim to fame came in 1985 through a speaking part in the movie “Twice in a Lifetime” filmed in Snohomish.

In their retirement years, Henry and Eileen began wintering in Arizona where they enjoyed many activities. Eileen especially enjoyed lunching with her two dearest friends, Margaret Stoen and Shirley Misich. She also loved to dance and had a passion for walking the Centennial Trail.

Eileen is survived by daughter Charlyle (Mrs. Ray) Haugen; daughter Denise Cornwell, and grandson Jeffrey Porteous. She is also survived by a sister Audrey Williamson of Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her husband, Henry Cornwell; her parents, brothers Carl and Irvin Britton, sisters Enza Tougas, Dorothy Ackerson, and Kathryn Bettzig and three infant siblings.

The family wishes to express their thanks to Provice Hospice for their tremendous support in her final week on this earth. A fund has been set up by Snohomish City Public Works to sponsor a drinking fountain on Centennial Trail in Eileen’s memory. A graveside service is planned at G.A.R. Cemetery, 8601 Riverview Rd, Snohomish, on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at 2:00 PM. Immediately following this service, please join the family in a celebration of her life at the Collectors’ Choice Restaurant, 120 Glen Ave., Snohomish, from 3:00 to 4:30 PM.
