December 5,1932 to Andrew and Louise Lind, Gerald was the second of three
children. The family moved to Alaska shortly after his birth and Jerry, as his
friends know him, spent his young life in Juneau. Upon returning to Washington
the family ran a strawberry farm in Marysville, where Jerry graduated from high
school, and a store in Everett. In 1951 Jerry enlisted in the Air Force,
married, and began serving his country, a task which took him around the world
and lasted 23 years. He built his family over this time, having four kids with
first wife Roberta Rood. Jerry was honorably discharged with a National Defense
Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal, and at that point finally returned to his
beloved Washington with his family. While his first marriage was ending, Jerry
began a 20-year career in management with the Al's Auto Supply chain, and
through his great and lasting friendship with Bill W. he met the love that would
change him forever: Sally Dolan. Taking on the mantle of father to her children
as well, he found happiness and peace in those relationships, and in the lakes,
rivers and deep waters of Puget Sound. Fish could not escape Jerry's keen sense,
and he spent many hours sharing this love with his sons and daughters, and
frying up the catch of the day. Jerry loved a good meal, a good ball game,
gospel music, and road trips with Sally at his side. They logged thousands of
miles together visiting Reno, Nevada, and his children in Southern California
and Ohio. Jerry is survived by his wife Sally, his sister Jeanette Keesee, his
children Karen (Steve), Chris (Debra), Mary (Bruce), Tom (Michaelann), Cathy
(Norman), Rick, Holli (Stan), and Merri Ann (Cliff), as well as dear friends Gig
Larsen, Buzz Carter, his dog Bernie, 22 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren,
and 10 nephews and nieces. Even at the end, as he lay nearly helpless, he found
a way to buy a special gift for his beloved Sally, and gave it to her in his
final weeks. Jerry simply never stopped thinking of others, for 80 years. And
now he's up fishing for steelhead with his childhood friend Pat
Sullivan. A service will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery on October 18, 2013,
at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lake Stevens Food Bank,
