Warren moved to the Everett area in 1940 to work on local dairy farms. He met his wife of 69 years at church while he was working with the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC). He returned to KY, working until he saved money for the bus to Everett High School to propose to Emma Yotty. They married and have lived in Everett on their small farm near Highway 9.
Warren served on the CCC making trails in the Baker National Forest and clearing country roads and fields in Snohomish, WA. He remained active in the CCC helping on trails in the local state and national forests.
Warren was dedicated to his church and community. He was a member of the Snohomish Baptist Church for many years and more recently the Lake Country Baptist Church. He volunteered at Mary Haven Nursing Home providing worship services since the 1970s. More recently he served after school snacks to hungry kids outside Snohomish Free Methodist Church.
Warren worked 25 years as Secretary/Treasurer for the Building Labor Local #292 in Everett, WA. After retiring from the union in 1977 Warren volunteered at the Snohomish Food Bank from 1984 until his death. The people of Snohomish could count on Warren and his red 1965 Ford pickup to collect donations from markets up to seven days a week. When he could no longer drive he helped sort and bag the food.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and Emma had a small farm and were very self-sufficient. He was always active in local politics and a very strong supporter of local labor unions and the Grange. For many years he played his guitar at the Darrington Bluegrass Festival. He was a man of many talents and interests who loved to share those interests with his friends and family. He will be missed by all.
His daughter, Janet Newton, preceded Warren in death.
His wife, Emma; his son, Marvin Rush, of Mt. Vernon, WA; and two daughters, Joy Panks, of Lake Stevens, WA and Gracie Dinsmore, of Sparta, MO survive him. He has 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six siblings.
A private family graveside service was held on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Cypress Lawn Memorial. There will be a memorial for family and friends on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Lake Country Baptist Church in Lake Stevens, WA, 8830-8th St. SE., with Pastor Stevens presiding.
