Passing's are never easy. Loved one never just leave you, their with us in the shadows.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Look at it as an address change. He is just in a place where you can't visit right now, but will one day have a reunion of joy.

To Jack & the family of John, my heartfelt loss. That is all we talked about your football & lacrosse when we tailgated at the Limp Lizzard or at the dome for the last 10 yrs. So sorry to hear about your dad's passing.  We will so miss his constant presence and support at his grandson Jack's lacrosse games.  He was a great fan and a wonderful guy.  You will all have a new guardian angel on your side.

Who is that good looking, well-dressed man? Sharp as a tack, collar turned up. Even when he was cutting the lawn, working on the high lines, going to the beach, or reading his kindle in his “CHAIR”. And don't dare sit in his chair!

As a son, he was loyal to Joe and Irene. 
Building their camp and making the bomb fires. Helping around the house, doing dishes, cooking or helping with the younger kids. Learning to make Fancy Pants or his infamous “Swiss steak”. Sunday morning church and breakfasts on Draper Ave. St. Patrick's day parades. Running Irene to and fro.

As a brother, unswerving.
Johnnie loved all of you. He loved the holidays and having everyone around. He Loved to tell stories of the old days. Tucking the younger kids in their beds.  Walking to St. Charles school, sledding on Wescott Reservoir, and camp stories. Locking his sweaters up in a suitcase, so no one could wear them. Clothes were precious to Dad.( If you only knew how many closets he had).
Oh and his precious White Mustang. Taking Rosemary, Matt, Paul and Marty for a ride. Giving as he was, you needed special permission to use it. Uncle Matt used to have to beg to borrow to use it for dates, but Dad would always give in.

As an uncle, steadfast.
Many a days were spent with Uncle Fran and Aunt Claire and the girls. Sunday pizzas, spending time watching football at the Dome from its beginning days. Even that “No smoking” sign never stopped Dad and Fran at the Dome. The Stone Harbor and Atlantic City vacations with happy hour galore. His happy hour was never outdone. 
And, Oh, the stories we heard from “Henny's”.

As a friend, Kumba John and the Solvay Class Reunion.  
I've never know such a group of friends to last and be true for so many years. Many stories I've heard beginning from grammar school. Although, many I cannot repeat. From Draper Ave as a boy, to St. Patrick's and St. Charles, to Solvay High, to Charles Ave. and the Apartments, fun times were always sure to be had when anyone got together. 

As a coworker, he was dedicated.
 “Ives” loved his job. Many friends were made through all the big storms and the many breakfasts on the road. And all those happy afternoons at the old Park West. 
And boy did we always have enough black electrical tape around the house!

As a grandfather, pledged.
“The swaddler.” As soon as those babies came home, he unwrap them, then wrap them up as snug as can be. Never missed an event, a holiday parade, a recital, a chorus concert, a swim meet, a football or baseball game, a golf match and NEVER a lacrosse game. “Where's the schedule?” He would always say. And The photographer he was. I can't think of how many cameras he has bought over the years. He was so proud of all of them.

As a husband, devoted.
John! I can hear Mom say. That really says it all.
Committed and constant, through all the ups and downs. He had the best heartfelt cards, the best gifts and the best smile. Mom wanted for nothing. She would ask and he would run.

As a father, he was bound.
He taught us the rules for life. A stickler for manners, pride, respect, and diligence. 
He was the enforcer of all rules and the rock behind our success. The promoter of our relentless  work ethic. He was smart, well read, master of his crossword puzzles and his opinion mattered to all of us. From cooking, decorating, to cars, to money, to school, to our “how to” projects. Oh and let's not forget clothes and shopping. I think he owned stock in UPS.

Tying our shoes, to riding a two wheeler. Pulling out our baby teeth( he loved it).

Back yard ball throwing went on for hours. He wouldn't allow us to be quitters.

Early Sunday morning paper deliveries with John in the big white Buick wagon listening to “American Pie.”

Riding on his lap on the back roads to camp. Teaching us to swim and fish.

Helping us study and pushing us to work hard.

Critiquing our wardrobe.. much of it wrinkled and teaching us to iron. I even had to iron his hankies.

Teaching us to tie knots, do the yard work to perfection and Johnny trying to cut the lawn with the straightest lines.

He was “Top Chef” and we all looked for tips, recipes, and gadgets. SALT was his favorite ingredient!

He was Master of the kitchen for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, birthdays and every barbeque. There was always soooo much food. 

 If you needed it, he had it, OR he would run out and get it for you. He loved his errands. He would always be running out for “the bread!”


 He loved us. And he loved all of you. He wasn't a man of many words, often reserved, but his actions spoke louder than words.
