

Katherine Bendo, 70, of Baldwinsville, passed away Wednesday December 26th at St. Joseph’s Hospital Following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She died peacefully and surrounded by family and friends. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out, tremendously successful and respected as a mother, friend and nurse. She was born in Jamestown to the late Roy and Nicolina (Crassi) Calabrese. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1959, then obtained her RN at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo before finally receiving her BS in Anthropology from Syracuse University College. She worked for many years as an Emergency Room nurse at Jamestown General and as Associate Director of Nursing at Upstate Medical Center before ultimately retiring from Bristol-Myers Squibb, where she worked for 24 years as a Nurse Manager.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, W. James Bendo, Jr., 2 daughters; Lisa (Harry) Black and Lauren (Gabriel) Angelone, both of Syracuse, a son; W. James Bendo III, of Baldwinsville, 7 grandchildren; Jesse, Max, Cody, Billy, Tyler, Nina and Sofia, 2 brothers; Dr. Joseph (Flora) Calabrese, of Wilmington, DE and Anthony Calabrese, of Jamestown, and 1 niece and nephew.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 am Monday December 31st at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME and 9:30 am in St. Mary’s Church, Baldwinsville, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Calling hours are from 1 to 4 pm Sunday December 30th at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Ave.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to a charity of choice.
