Oskar P. Paetzold, 84, of Fairmount, passed away after a brief, but dignified struggle with cancer. His life adventure began in eastern Germany where he was apprenticed to a cabinet maker and trained in glider piloting. After the tumultuous events of WWII, he was employed on the American airbase in Frankfurt before immigrating to the United States via Castroville, TX. He soon moved to central New York after finding the climate more accordant to his native home, and there met his wife, Ingeborg, while dancing at the German Club of Syracuse. There he worked for Wood Glass Co. prior to starting his own business as a home remodeler. Oskar worked hard to provide for his family. His artistry was evident in his craftsmanship and the quality of his product was his only advertising. When not working, he enjoyed skiing, fishing trips, and playing the card game, skat, with a long-time group of friends. Oskar was a caring husband and loving father who will be missed and dearly remembered.
Oskar was preceded in death by his wife, Ingeborg.
Survivors: Sons, Peter of Mattydale, NY and Stephan of Austin, TX; Sister Elly, of Werdeck, Germany; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
