

Valentino “Nick” DiNicola, 90, of Lakeland, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at Francis House. He was born in Syracuse to the late Serafino and Angela (Collela) DiNicola in 1925. Val was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a firefighter with the Syracuse Fire Department for 35 years before retiring in 1987. He was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church, a member of the American Legion Post 1297 and past member of the Moose Club. Val was an avid bowler, golfer and won multiple medals for competing in the NYS Senior Olympics in Cortland. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine (Giambrone) in 1988. He is also predeceased by his siblings, Angela Mossotti, Richard, Anthony and Samuel DiNicola.
He is survived by 2 daughters; Mary Carmel DiNicola, of Rochester and Valerie (Michael) Amie, of Camillus, a son; Valentino “VJ” (Denise) DiNicola, of Hastings, 3 grandchildren; Sarah (Andrew) Sidnam, Julie and Ryan Wisniewski-DiNicola, 3 sisters; Victoria Benedetto, of FL, Mary Jane Villano, of Las Vegas, NV and Delores (Luigi) Savastino, of FL, 2 sisters-in-law; Alice and Jane DiNicola, and many nieces, nephews, friends and great-granddog; Quinn.
Funeral services will be held 8:45 am Friday, February 26th at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME and 9:30 am at Our Lady of Peace Church, Lakeland, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse. Family and friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Avenue.
