Richard P. Cichon, age 66, of Swansea passed on Saturday October 31, 2009. He was the husband of the late Cassie (Walesiewicz) Cichon.Born in Fall River the son of the late William A. and Nellie A. (Para) Cichon, he was a 1960 graduate of Somerset High School and a 1964 graduate of Providence College, and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964-1971.Mr. Cichon was employed as a teacher at Somerset High School for 30 years, retiring seven years ago. An active communicant of St. Louis de France Church he was a religious education teacher, lector, Eucharistic Minister , member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, Pre-Cana Counselor, and a recipient of the Marian Medal. He embraced the opportunity to give back to those in need, providing generously of his time to volunteer at various soup kitchens and food pantries throughout the region. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League of Somerset.He is survived by four children Janet C. Tavares of Taunton, Richard J. Cichon of Swansea, James M. Cichon of Virginia, and Carolyn M. Cichon of Waltham; and one brother Robert J. Cichon Somerset, three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.His funeral will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 9AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT ROSE E. SULLIVAN, 866 COUNTY ST., SOMERSET followed by a funeral mass at 10AM in St. Louis de France Church, 56 Buffington St., Swansea. Visiting hours Thursday 5-8PM.
