Sylvia A. (Alfonso) Owens, 68, of Berkley, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the devoted wife of Gilbert Owens, with whom she shared a life rooted in love, family, and quiet joys.
Born in Acushnet, Sylvia was the daughter of the late John and Blanche (Tessier) Alfonso. She earned a certificate in Accounting from Kinyon Campbell Business School and went on to work for several years in customer service for Ann & Hope. Sylvia found happiness in simple pleasures—playing mobile games with her daughters, going to Bingo, playing cards, but nothing brought her greater joy than time spent with her family. Her love for them was constant and unwavering, and she cherished every moment shared together.
In addition to her husband Gilbert, Sylvia is survived by her beloved daughters, Michelle Owens-Tavares and her husband Scott of Berkley, and Christal Sousa and her husband Kevin of Rehoboth. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her grandson Justin Owens and her granddaughter Alyssa Sousa. She is also survived by her brother, James Alfonso, along with several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late David Alfonso.
A visitation will be held on Friday , February 13, 2026 from 4:00 to 6:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County Street, Somerset.Relatives and friends are invited.
