Virginia L. Hayes

Virginia L. (Riccio) Hayes, went peacefully on February 26, 2013 in Fall River, to meet up with God and her husband of 60 years, Leo F. Hayes. Virginia was born on June 19, 1911 in Bristol, RI, to live a long, happy, and enjoyable life. She had resided in Somerset for the past 35 years, having been a resident of Fall River for the previous 42 years.

She was an avid bowler until the age of 92 in the St. Williams Women’s League. She had numerous trophies that indicated her love for the game. A member of the St. William’s Guild, she held various officers positions and worked at the Fall River Knitting Mill for 35 years.

She traveled the world with her husband and enjoyed Las Vegas and Atlantic City on short trips. In her later years it was all about going out to dinner with the girls and enjoying a good lobster roll. She lived a healthy and independent life while maintaining her own home, until recently succumbing to failure of a century old body. In June of 2011, she received a letter from the White House, congratulating her on 100 years of life.

She is survived by three sons; Brian F. Hayes and his wife Barbara of Tiverton, James W. Hayes and his wife Carole of Seekonk, and Bradley P. Hayes and his wife Valerie of Grand Island, FL, five grandchildren; Michael, Patrick, Todd, and Kristin Hayes, Jennifer Hayes Perry, six great-grandchildren; Liam, Ella, and Francy Hayes, Kevin and Courtney Perry, Andrew Medeiros, and several nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Joseph and Fred Riccio, Beatrice Lynch, Ann Guarini, Julia DeCristafaro, Jennie Garvey, and Elizabeth Reily.

Her Funeral will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 8:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at ROSE E. SULLIVAN, 866 County St., Somerset, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00AM in St. Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave., Somerset. Visiting hours Sunday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. Contributions in her honor may be made to St. Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave., Somerset, MA 02726. Burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
