Born in Fall River, she was the youngest child of the late John E. and Susan “Celeste” (Byron) McCoomb. Upon graduating from Sacred Heart Academy, Class of 1947, she went on to work at the Electric Light Company, where she met her first husband, Albert Oliveira , whom she married in 1952. Tragically, Al died in an industrial accident shortly before the birth of their daughter, Nancy. Several years later, Ginny married Thomas Roussell. They moved to Assonet where they built their home and raised their family of seven children. Ginny dedicated her life to raising her ever-growing family. Eventually, she took a job outside the home as a clerk at The Corner Drug Store where she worked for many years. She was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Parish in Assonet and a member of the Women’s Guild. She was also involved with the Music Boosters at Apponequet Regional High School. Ginny enjoyed knitting, traveling, playing cards and Bingo, music, dancing, (particularly doing the jitterbug with Dad) and most of all, spending time with family.
Ginny was predeceased by her eldest child, Nancy A. (Oliveira Roussell) Smith. Survivors include her children: Thomas A. Roussell, Jr. and his wife Diane of Cheshire, CT, Kim Cobourn and her husband Chris of Placida, FL, Elizabeth “Betsey” Cole and her husband Bruce of Middleboro, Joan Tracey and her husband Michael of Fairhaven, John E. “Jack” Roussell and his wife Terri of Rochester, and Donna Kennedy of Assonet; her son-in-law, Jeff Smith of Fairhaven; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Helen Reid, Joan Dickinson and John McCoomb.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County Street, Somerset followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Bernard’s Church, South Main Street, Assonet. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held Monday, May 13, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
