Charlotte Vivian (Poyant) Fredette, 73, of South Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Paul R. Fredette Jr., with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.
The youngest of five children, Charlotte was the daughter of the late Maurice and Irene (Gaudette) Poyant, and a lifelong resident of the SouthCoast area.
Charlotte worked for 14 years as a bank teller at NBIS Bank in Downtown New Bedford, which later became Fleet Bank. She later transitioned to a new career at LensCrafters, where she worked for 16 years—starting as a lab technician and eventually becoming a skilled optician.
She treasured her role as a stay-at-home mother, raising her three children until her youngest started school. The heart and soul of her family, Charlotte was the glue that held everyone together, always there to offer a helping hand or a warm hug. She played an active role in the lives of her five beloved grandchildren, helping care for them and cheering them on at every game and milestone.
Known for her famously comforting hugs and her insatiable sweet tooth—something she inherited from joyful family dinners growing up—Charlotte brought light and warmth wherever she went.
Her Catholic faith was central to her life. She was a devoted parishioner who regularly attended Mass, and she found great joy in reading about biblical history and spiritual topics that deepened her faith.
Charlotte found her greatest joy in simple, shared moments: watching her grandchildren play sports, enjoying the sun by the pool in the summer, attending regular ‘cousins lunch’ when able, and being surrounded by the laughter of her family.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; her two sons, Kevin Fredette of Assonet, and Todd Fredette and his wife Tiffany of Dartmouth; her daughter, Katie Amaral and her husband Jay of Dartmouth; her sisters, Gloria Richard-Chartier and her husband Armand of Acushnet, and Nina Poyant of South Carolina; sister-in-law Anita Poyant of New Bedford; her grandchildren, Alexia Amaral, Landon Amaral, Bella Amaral, Todd Fredette Jr., and Travis Fredette; and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her brother Leonard M. Poyant and sister Juliette “Judy” Berthiaume.
She will be remembered for her unwavering love, her quiet strength, and the joy she brought into the lives of everyone who knew her.
Her Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 10:00am in St. Mary's Church, Dartmouth St., Dartmouth followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
