Dorothy Warburton

Dorothy (Couto) Warburton, 93, of Dartmouth, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Born in Fall River on April 23, 1929, she was the eldest of seven children to the late Joseph and Mary Couto.

Dorothy, like many of her generations was taken out of school at a young age and worked in the garment industry becoming a seamstress. Later in life, she worked at various jobs in the hospitality industry. She was a member of the Women’s Garment Retirees and The Red Hat Society.

Dorothy enjoyed dancing, painting, crafts, crocheting, sewing, photography, traveling and dining out.

She was a warm and friendly person and as time went on friends and family affectionately referred to her as Momma Dot.

Dorothy loved people and spending time with her family. Taught by her father, she passed on the love of dance; teaching her brothers and sisters, preparing them for many memorable evenings at Lincoln Park Ballroom.

My Mom made sure I always knew how much she loved me. She reminded me every day how important I was to her. My Mom was an incredible person. I feel very lucky to have been her daughter. I love you Mom. I’ll miss you. She loved her son-in-law Brian and was so thankful that he loved and cared for her especially when she couldn’t care for herself. Mom’s biggest pride and joy in life was her grandson Adam, whom she spent countless hours caregiving and enjoying their time together. She rarely missed a game or event Adam was part of.

As the matriarch of the family, Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Brenda J. Lang and husband Brian E. Lang of Dartmouth; one grandson, Adam Edward Lang of Virginia; her siblings, William “Billy” Couto of Brockton, Evelyn Gauthier of Dartmouth, Irene Arruda of New Bedford and Mary Lou McCarthy of NY; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Couto and sister, Lorraine Collingham.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, July 3rd 2022 from 1:30 to 5:00 pm with a Service of Remembrance at 4:00 pm at the Waring-Sullivan Home in Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be starting at 5:30 pm at the Century House, 107 S. Main St. in Acushnet.
