Born in Portugal, a son of the late Jose and Carminda (DaFonte) Monteiro. He was a longtime resident of New Bedford. Fred immigrated to the United States as a teenager. He was later employed as a fork truck operator for Pepsi Cola for 34 years.
Fred spent his days puttering in the garage, enjoying laughs with neighborhood friends, and watching TV on his favorite couch. He cherished the simple things in life like a fresh pack of Marlboros, Cumberland Farms coffee and his truck. He found contentment in the things around him rather than focusing on what money could buy, he often told his loved ones “what do you need that for?” His outlook on life and hard work ethic set an unprecedented standard for the next generation. Elegantly put, Fred Monteiro was a simple man with a heart of gold.
He is survived by his children, David Monteiro and his wife Lois of Mattapoisett and Kim Monteiro of New Bedford; his grandchildren, Emalia and Cameron Monteiro and Amari Beltran.
Visitation will be Friday, November 24, 2023 from 10:30 to 12:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth, MA 02748. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery. To leave a note of condolence: www.waring-sullivan.com
