Henry Almeida, Jr., 75 of Florida and New Bedford, passed away in his residence with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. He was the loving companion of Karen (Taylor) Pratt for more than 30 years.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Henry, Sr. and Laura (Viera) Almeida, he was a lifelong resident of New Bedford and later Wesley Chapel, FL. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and the former SMU, Dartmouth. Henry proudly served his country in the United States Navy. His vibrant personality served him well in his career in auto sales at Ralph’s Chevrolet in Dartmouth and at Chace Chevrolet in Middleboro, and later as a realtor in Florida prior to his retirement.
Henry loved his family immensely, especially his grandchildren. Calling himself “Handsome Hank”, he was known for his witty humor and his infamous strut. For him, a perfect day would be a ride on his beloved motorcycle to meet up with friends and family for some good food and drinks, watching sports of any kind while laughing and telling stories. He enjoyed being around people and loved putting a smile on their faces.
He is survived by his son, Derek Almeida and his wife Carrie of Dartmouth, his twin grandchildren, Adam and Erica Almeida of Dartmouth, a sister, Gayle Medeiros and her husband Mark of Dartmouth, and stepdaughter Jennifer Dupont, her husband Joe and granddaughters Ryan and Addisyn and stepson Jason Pratt.
In lieu of flowers and in gratitude for the care that Henry received during his battle with cancer, the family is requesting donations to the Veteran’s Administration Healthcare System. https://www.va.gov/boston-health-care/work-with-us/volunteer-or-donate
