

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Antone and Maria (Constancia) Aguiar, she had resided in New Bedford for most of her life.
Mrs. Faria was the longtime owner of Independent Bakery on Coggeshall Street in New Bedford for 37 years, retiring in 2000. Following retirement, she continued to volunteer at the bakery.
Irene touched the lives of many people and always greeted you with a smile. She loved socializing with family and friends and cherished the many family get-togethers. She loved to sew and took great pride in her cooking talent. Mrs. Irene was very respected by those who knew her for her exemplary selflessness, and her ability to maintain her positive attitude during difficult times. Her charitable nature, humility, and wisdom serve as an inspiration to all who knew her. It is her legacy to her family, who she loved without reservation.
Her family includes her children, Irene Martin and her husband Albert, George Mello and his wife Dina P. all of New Bedford and Rosemary Corbett and her husband Brett of Lewisville, TX; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Arthur D. Aguiar, Palmeida Aguiar, Laura Almeida and Mary Long.
Her Funeral will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 8am from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd. with a Funeral Mass at 9am in St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford.
