Jacqueline "Jackie" J. Costa

Jacqueline J. (Jackie) Costa - Garcia, age 81 of New Bedford died Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at St Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John D. Garcia. Born in New Bedford she was the daughter of the late John and Annie (Christian) Costa and had been a lifelong resident of the city.

Jackie was a first grade teacher at the Abraham Lincoln School for 38 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Guild, the Catholic women’s club, St Hedwig’s Senior Group, the United Portuguese Women’s Club, the Goodyear Senior Club and was a 30 year member of the New Bedford Educator’s Association bowling league. She was an extensive world traveler with her husband, having enjoyed a 98 day cruise, a cruise around South America and an African safari. She was a graduate of Amhurst College.

Jackie was the beloved aunt of Harry and Sue Buckley of Bowdoin, ME, Nancy Skaliotis of Andover, MA and Jack and Rosemary Notarangelo of East Longmeadow, MA. She also leaves 6 nieces and nephews: Jennifer and Justin Buckley both of Buzzard’s Bay, Joel Skaliotis of Boston, Ross Skaliotis of New York City, David Notarangelo of Enfield, CT and Laura Notarangelo of Falmouth. In addition to her family she leaves Wayne and Lisa Cabral of Westport, Bryan and Jessica Machado of No. Dartmouth, her dear friend Tina Espinola of New Bedford and 2 Godchildren, Lori Mahoney of Denver, CO and Kathy Spooner of New Bedford.

Her Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 12 noon in St. Mary’s Church, Dartmouth St. Burial in St. Johns Cemetery.
