John J. Desjardins

John J. Desjardins, age 98, formerly of New Bedford, died Saturday, January 1, 2011 in Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. He was the husband of the late Lena (Tetrault) Desjardins and the late Dora M. (Daviau) Desjardins.

Born in Smithfield, Rhode Island, a son of the late William and Palmera (Harnois) Desjardins, he had been resident of New Bedford for over 60 years.

He was a Truck driver for Old Colony Trucking for many years and worked at Alden Corrugated. He enjoyed walking his dog, playing bingo, and traveling.

He is survived by five daughters, Rita J. Souza of Dartmouth, Vivian Desjardins of Fairhaven, Jeannette Costello of HI, Theresa Richardson and her husband Charles of New Bedford, and Denise Belong of Fairhaven, one sister Jeannette Moss of Corpus Christi, TX, 18 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Aurora Flood and brother of the late Ernest, and Fred Desjardins.

His Funeral will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 9:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at DARTMOUTH 230 Russells Mills Rd. Dartmouth followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Mary’s Church 783 Dartmouth St. Dartmouth. Visiting hours Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Contributions in his honor may be to New England Hospice 190 Old Derby St. Suite 304 Hingham, MA 02043. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery #2, New Bedford.
