Jose N. daCosta, 91, of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. He was the husband of Mary (DeMello) daCosta with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
Born in Igreja Nova Ferreira do Zêzêre, Portugal, the son of the late Manuel and Gertrudes (Da Rosa) daCosta, he had resided in New Bedford for over 60 years. He was proud to serve his country in the Merchant Marines in World War II. Mr. daCosta worked as a businessman in the local real estate industry.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife is his brother, Joaquim daCosta and sister Palmira Rosa daCosta from Portugal.
He had a special touch with growing anything in the garden. He also loved taking trips to Cape Cod. He cherished time with his family which spanned several generations including, 4 nieces, 1 nephew, 4 great nieces, 1 great nephew, 2 great great nieces, and 4 great great nephews. He was a mentor to all of them as well as to others. Also a special friend of Jose and Mary is Mr. Victor Tomas.
