

José António Figueiredo, age 99 of South Dartmouth, MA, passed away at home on December 10th, 2023 in the presence of his beloved wife of 75 years and immediate family. A beloved family man, he appreciated time with his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren until the very end.
He was the son of the late António Joaquim Figueiredo and Maria do Patrocinio Antunes Gaspar of São Paio, Gouveia, Portugal. He was predeceased by his five siblings Manuel Figueiredo and wife Aurora, Antonio Figueiredo, João Figueiredo, Eugenio Figueiredo from São Paio, Gouveia Portugal and Maria De Deus from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and husband Gabriel. He leaves his brother Fernando Figueiredo and wife Dolores of Lisbon, Portugal.
Born on January 12, 1924 in São Paio, Gouveia, Portugal he was one of seven siblings and started to work from a young age to support the family. He served in the Portuguese army and went on to marry his wife of 75 years, Noémia Amaro Figueiredo. Full of entrepreneurial spirit, he started a transportation and taxi business at a young age and continued to work hard and support his community. He immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s with his wife and young family. He worked in manufacturing and real estate; prior to his retirement he was employed by Brittany Dyeing & Printing Company.
He was a member of the Teamsters Seniors and an avid supporter of the Dartmouth High School Music Association, during the years his granddaughters marched. A lifelong Porto supporter, he was passionate about soccer. He was a dedicated family man who worked diligently to ensure the success and the care of his family was his number one priority. His dedication was immeasurable. A true Renaissance man, he could build, repair and adapt anything and everything. A people person who valued community and the well being of others, he was kind, generous and gregarious. He loved music, played the Portuguese “guitarra” and was often found accompanying his grandchildren and great grandchildren with his harmonica.
He leaves behind his two daughters; Maria Theresa Correia of South Dartmouth, MA and predeceased son-in-law Serafim Joseph Correia, and Feliciana Figueiredo, also of South Dartmouth, MA.
His granddaughters were the light of his life which grew evermore at the birth of his great grandchildren. He leaves his eldest granddaughter Kimberley A. Correia Hunt of London, UK and her husband Marcus R. W. Hunt. Angela M. Correia of North Dartmouth, MA and her husband Paulo J. Rosas. Christina L. Correia of Weymouth, MA and her partner John F. Pomar. His six great grandchildren that he cherished; Isabelle Sophia Hunt, Emilia Naomi Hunt, Olivia Grace Rosas, Tiago Jose Rosas, Amalia Noelle Pomar and Gabriel Serafim Pomar. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered as a kind and loving family man with great stories and longstanding wisdom he imparted generously to those he cared about. The importance he placed on family will forever live on in his legacy; how lucky we have been to have had such a wonderful person in our lives for so long.
José’s Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 10AM at St. Mary’s Church, 795 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth, MA. Relatives and friends are invited.
