Lionel Cabral

Lionel “Leo” Cabral, 88 of New Bedford passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Claire (Ouellette) Cabral, in their 67th year of marriage.

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late John A. and Mary (Santos) Cabral, Leo was a lifelong resident of the city. He was employed as an Inspector for JC Rhodes prior to retirement. Leo loved his family, there was nothing more important to him. He enjoyed visiting with family, especially his grandchildren. He was affectionately referred to as “Pep” by almost everyone. He always had a joke or one-liner for those who knew him. When the kids were growing up, he loved to play basketball with them. Leo was an avid New England Sports fan. Another thing Leo truly enjoyed was sitting in his yard and taking in the beautiful sunshine.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Diane Raymond and her husband Dennis of New Bedford and David Cabral and his fiancé Lecia Seablom of New Bedford; his grandchildren, Douglas, Brian, Holly and Alexander; his great-grandchildren, Avery, Julia, Camelia and Azalea; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his five brothers.

Arrangements are in the care of the Rock Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 from 9:00 to 11:00AM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth, MA 02748 with a funeral service at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
