Luther A. Carter, 79, of Dartmouth passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 in St. Luke’s Hospital after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Margaret M. (Whitney) Carter and the late Anne M. (Hardie) Carter.
Born in Taunton, a son of the late Luther O. and Edith (Canham) Carter he lived most of his life in Dartmouth. Lu graduated from Norton High School in 1957 and later became a United States Marine.
Lu worked for Cornell-Dubilier for 14 years, Fernandes Supermarket for 15 years and then Shaw’s Supermarket for 16 years.
Mr. Carter was a fire arms instructor for the National Rifle Association and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Lu enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a longtime friend of Bill.
He is survived by one daughter, Susan Carter of New Bedford; three sons, Michael Carter and Kevin Carter of Nashua, NH and Scott Carter of New Bedford; two sisters, Mary Woodward of Burlington, ME and Margaret Carter of Lakeville, ME; one brother, George Carter of The Villages,FL; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 7 pm in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. His family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
