Manuel “Manny” Abreu, 82, of Dartmouth, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Marta (Ganansa) Abreu to whom he had been married for 56 years.Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel Abreu, Sr. and Mary Gloria Abreu, he had resided in Dartmouth for most of his life.Mr. Abreu served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Dartmouth.He worked for the Department of Public Works in the Town of Dartmouth for 26 years retiring as Foreman.He was a lifetime member of the Club Madeirense SS Sacremento in New Bedford and enjoyed gardening.He loved the company of his family and friends and will always be remembered as a kind and generous man.Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Daniel Abreu and his wife Mary of Swansea and Brian Abreu and his wife Michelle of Dartmouth; two daughters, Joan Britto of Dartmouth and Ann Marie Sylvia and her husband Douglas of E. Freetown; a brother, Antone Abreu of Dartmouth and a late sister, Maria Cesar; eleven grandchildren: Kristin Britto and her husband George of Warwick RI, Brad Abreu of Seekonk, Rebecca Britto of Rockland, Jonathan Abreu of Dartmouth, Melanie Britto, of Attleboro, Meredith Britto of Dartmouth, Danielle Enos of Attleboro, Eric Abreu of Springfield, Katelyn Abreu of Springfield, Bret Abreu of Dartmouth and Tara Abreu of Dartmouth and several nieces and nephews.His funeral mass will be held on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 10am in St. Mary’s Church, 783 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth. Visiting hours on Sunday 2-5pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
