

Margery Anne Miller, 60, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away on August 1, 2012. Margie was the daughter of William M. Miller and the late Mona Miller, and the sister of the late William M. Miller, Jr. and the late Thomas E. Miller.
Margie graduated from Dartmouth High School and Kinyon-Cambell Business School with a junior accounting certificate. She later graduated from Southeastern Massachusetts University (now UMass Dartmouth) with a B.S. degree in accounting.
Her professional career spanned 34 years with Compass Bank. She held many positions from bank teller to financial reporting officer. Margie was the bank’s first employee to receive her college degree through its tuition reimbursement program.
Margie participated in Junior Achievement while in high school and later served as a Junior Achievement advisor. She volunteered at the Dartmouth Children’s Museum (now YMCA Dartmouth). She had been a member of the New Bedford Quota Club, the Dartmouth Rotary Club, the Cortez-Allen Chapter of the Eastern Star, and the Westport Women’s Club.
An avid animal lover, Margie shared her home with many cats and dogs throughout her life. She supported many national, state, and local animal shelters, including the Buttonwood Park Zoological Society, Habitat for Cats, and the South Coast Humane Society.
Margie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, doing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and reading.
Her survivors include two sisters, Dorothy M. Grosswendt of South Dartmouth, and Susan M. Smith of Westport; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and one great-great nephew.
There will be no calling hours and services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any organization dedicated to the welfare of animals.
