

Maria Conceicao (deAbreu DosReis) DeSousa, 72, of N. Dartmouth passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024 in St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Jordao DeSousa with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in Madeira Portugal, a daughter of the late Antonio and Conceicao (Augusta) deAbreu DosReis she came to the United States at the age of 19. She was a communicant Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
Mrs. DeSousa worked as a pad print at Titleist for 43 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, baking, especially cavacas, and cooking. Maria loved all three of her grandchildren and spending time with them gave her great joy.
Connie was an angel on earth. She was always looking for ways to help others. She cared for her ailing mother prior to her death. Another example of her caring; several times a year she would put together care packages filled with various school supplies and either ship to Portugal or deliver in person during vacations. She also put packages together for Marian friary so the friars could enjoy special treats.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Marilyne White and her husband Chad White of Fall River and Rosemary Borges and her husband Richard of Somerset; grandchildren, Olivia Irene Leger, Stella Rose Borges, and Nora Rose Borges; siblings, Florentina Fernandes of New Bedford, Manuel deAbreu DosReis of FL, Domingos deAbreu DosReis of Dartmouth, and Candida Constantino of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Maria Jose Gomes, Goncalo deAbreu DosReis, Luis deAbreu DosReis, Maria Celeste Pestana, Manuel deAbreu DosReis, and Aldora deAbreu DosReis.
Her funeral will be Friday, August 2, 2024 at 9 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Rivet St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery, Dartmouth St., New Bedford. Visitation will be Thursday 5-8 p.m. For online tribute: www.waring-sullivan.com.
