Mark Steven Goulding of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly from an aneurysm on May 14, 2023. He leaves his beloved wife of almost 32 years, Georgie, brothers Tom (Beth) and Bryant (Regina), sister Melissa, and many nieces and nephews (and their children).
Mark grew up in Manhasset, NY, son of Elizabeth (Leader) and Raymond Goulding (of Bob & Ray fame), and had fond memories of growing up summering in Hyannis Port on Cape Cod. A life-long lover of lacrosse, he played throughout his youth, high school and was a defenseman at Penn State.
After a successful advertising career in New York City, Mark and Georgie left Westport, CT, to pursue a peaceful country life in Sharon, CT, and then moved to their summer home in South Dartmouth 10 years ago. In his retirement, Mark coached lacrosse at the high school and college levels, and enjoyed sharing his love of the sport.
An ardent photographer, Mark treasured his seaside community and often marveled at the profound beauty of the area. He loved all animals, and had a quick wit, a graceful gift with words, a stunning eye for colors and composition, a special ear for music, and was an artist at heart. His talents knew no bounds. Mark was a writer, a composer on the piano and guitar, and had started to learn to paint in the last year. He cherished and adored his wife and his dogs deeply and fiercely, and his happy place was with Georgie and Tully playing on their beach at Meadows Shore. He also found peace and purpose on his photographic sojourns. While Mark often wanted to spend more time with Georgie, he was intensely proud of her work at Our Sisters’ School (OSS) and believed in the School’s mission passionately.
A summer memorial will be planned, and gifts in Mark’s memory can be made to OSS, 145 Brownell Avenue, New Bedford, MA 02740; oursistersschool.org/support-our-girls.
