Matthew R. Dumas, age 49, of South Dartmouth, passed away on June 12, 2025 following a courageous battle with Glioblastoma. He was the beloved husband of Amy (Santos) Dumas with whom he shared 25 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a son of Steven Dumas and the late Renee (St. Onge) Dumas, he was raised in New Bedford and had resided in South Dartmouth for the past 23 years.
Matthew was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1994.
He worked in the automobile appraisal industry for many years, with his most recent employment with MAPFRE Insurance. Matt loved his job and always spoke of the many friends he met along his workday.
Matthew enjoyed golfing, fishing and hockey. In earlier years, he helped coach some of his son’s sports teams. Matt also loved spending time with his 5 siblings and traveling to visit them. He recently was able to attend the Masters Golf Tournament, which was a dream come true to him, as well as a fishing trip with good friends up north that he looked forward to every year.
Matt wanted to contribute to brain cancer research and while being treated at Dana Farber, he was willing to enroll in several studies to aid in finding a cure for this horrible disease. His hope was to stop anyone else from enduring this journey.
Matt was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone. Whether it was a project around the house or a problem with the car, he was your guy and enjoyed helping any of his friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his sons, Connor Dumas and Cody Dumas; his siblings, Mike Dumas, Marc Dumas and his wife Caryn, Meaghan Murphy and her husband Mark, Michelle Santos and her husband Ivo and Meredith Galit and her husband Josh; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Arrangements are in the care of Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. A Celebration of Life for Matt will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 2 p.m. in Allendale Country Club, 1047 Allen Street, Dartmouth, MA.
