

Richard E. “Dick” Carpenter, 82, of Dartmouth, passed away Monday, February 13, 2012 at Hathaway Manor in New Bedford. He was the husband of Margaret L. “Peggy” (Withers) Carpenter with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Born in Dighton, he was the son of the late Edwin N. and Florence May (Westcott) Carpenter.
Mr. Carpenter served in the United States Navy attaining the rank of Airman Apprentice.
Dick had worked as a tour bus driver for Brander and Conway Bus Companies, touring all over the United States and Canada.
He was the Past Worshipful Master of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge of Masons in Rehoboth and Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving in addition to his wife are five daughters, Gay Carpenter Toomy of Hudson, Jill Munch of Portsmouth, RI, Cindy Stillings of Bristol, RI, Tammy Hickox of Fairhaven and Betsy Carpenter Brown of Attleboro; a brother, Edwin Carpenter of Smithfield, RI; three sisters, Etta Dugan of Great Barrington, MA, Rita J. Harrison of Berkley and Priscilla Martin of Berkley; three grandchildren, Collin and Shelby Hickox of Fairhaven and Samantha Nicole Brown of Attleboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Kenneth Carpenter and Phyllis Olson.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Monday, February 20, 2012 from 11AM to 12 PM, directly followed by a memorial service at the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will be private.
