Thelma L. (Smith) Hammond, 94, of New Bedford, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 in St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth Hammond, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late C. Forest and Clara M. (Sylvia) Smith.
Thelma was a graduate of Dartmouth High School. Spending time with family was very important, and she will be deeply missed. Mrs. Hammond was a Bookkeeper at King Lumber for many years, and prior to that worked at Browne Pharmacy downtown N.B.
She is survived by her children, Donna Bassett of New Bedford, and Sandra Belong of New Bedford; her granddaughter, Pamela Stuart of Rochester; her great-grandchildren, Liam Patrick Stuart and Teagan Stuart, and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Scott Hammond and grandmother of the late Lisa Belong-Cody, and sister to the late Eleanor King and Charles Smith.
Her graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 10:30AM in River-Side Cemetery, 274 Main St., Fairhaven, MA 02719. Family and friends will meet at the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME AT DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd, Dartmouth, MA at 10:00AM SHARP, to follow in procession all together to the cemetery.
