Born in Boston, a son of the late Michael and Maria (Anzalone) Rotondi, he had resided in Dartmouth since 1977, previously living in Westport, Mattapoisett, Southboro and Dedham.
He was a graduate of Boston Latin High School, received a Master of Education degree from Boston College in 1951 and his Doctorate degree from Harvard in 1969.
Dr. Rotondi had a successful career as a Professor at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth for 27 years, retiring in 1996. He also had a private practice as a licensed Psychologist.
William was an avid reader who had a thirst for knowledge. He enjoyed Italian cooking, gardening and walks on the beach. His favorite walking spot was the Marginal Way. Spending time with family always brightened his day.
He leaves behind his children, Jean Rotondi of Stoneham, his late daughter Anne Lindsay, William G. Rotondi and wife Jane of Norton and John R. Rotondi of New Bedford; his brother, John Rotonde of Pasadena, CA; his grandchildren Scott William Rotondi and Sarah Jane Rotondi; several nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion Paulette Kornetsky of Dartmouth. He was predeceased by siblings, Anthony Rotondi, Viola Gervais, Dorothy Ango, Albert Rotondi, Ida Malta, Elizabeth Wilson, and Joseph Rotondi.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 10 a.m. in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
