It was in Lowell that he met his wife of 49 years, Mary Ellen (Rynne), and where they raised their family and later moved to Andover. Bart started his career as a teacher. He then became a Guidance Councilor and was a baseball coach at the Greater Lowell Regional Vocational Technical High School, where he worked for 35 years. Bart, Mary Ellen and their children spent their summers on Cape Cod. He retired to Cape Cod for many years. For the last five years Bart and Mary have been living in Fairhaven.
