Born and raised in South Boston, Edward attended Boston Technical High School before going on to earn his undergraduate degree from Boston University. He later completed his master’s degree in education at Boston State College, a foundation that shaped his lifelong commitment to teaching and mentorship.
Edward was the beloved husband of his wife, the late Carolyn (Crowell) Culhane, of 43 years. Their marriage was marked by enduring love, deep companionship, and devotion to family.
Edward was a devoted father to three children, Holly Driscoll (wife of Jeffrey), Lisa Fleming (wife of Thomas), and Brian Culhane (husband of Kari) and a proud grandfather to Shayne and Riley Fleming, Harrison and Lilian Culhane, and Ian Driscoll. He was also a loving great-grandfather to Lilly and Richie the children of Shayne and his fiancé, Katelynn Connolly.
Edward is survived by his brother John Culhane and brother-in-law Ronald Murphy and was predeceased by his brother Gerald Culhane.
A long-term resident of Medway, Massachusetts, Edward raised his three children there and was deeply involved in the community. He generously gave his time coaching multiple youth sports teams, including baseball and basketball, shaping not only athletes but young lives through his guidance, patience, and encouragement.
For 35 years, Edward served as a dedicated educator at Natick High School, where he was cherished by generations of students and respected by colleagues and faculty alike. His passion for teaching and unwavering commitment to his students left a lasting impact on the Natick community. In recognition of his extraordinary career, he was honored with the Herve B. Lemaire Award for Excellence in Education from the Natick School system.
Edward was a long-standing member of St. Joseph’s Church in Medway and St. Pius the Tenth Church in Yarmouth, Massachusetts. He loved Cape Cod and treasured time spent with family and friends.
Edward will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the quiet but powerful influence he had on so many lives.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
