Enjoyed Knitting and Gardening

South Dennis-Gertrude Galvin Sylvia, 83, passed away on December21, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Sylvia was pre-deceased by her husband Eugene Sylvia, Jr. She attended Harwich Schools. Mrs. Sylvia was a homemaker and did housekeeping for many local families. She was an avid knitter, knitting sweaters, hats, gloves, and slippers for everyone, especially children. She also enjoyed gardening and took great pride in planting flowers on family property.

Mrs. Sylvia is survived by her six children, Sheila Sylvia, Patricia Sylvia-Gonsalves and her husband Bob, and Francis Sylvia, all of South Dennis. Richard E. Sylvia and his companion Lynda Gannon of Harwich, Mark Sylvia and his wife Anne of Cotuit, and Brian Sylvia and his wife Laurie of Syracuse, NY; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Sylvia and his wife Kate, Amy Fiumara, Morgan Sylvia, Corey Gipson, Zeeley, Carmen and Mia Sylvia, Marissa Makris and Cameron Sylvia; her great-grandchildren, Jada and Dante Gipson and Emily Sylvia; one great-great-grandchild, Elena Marie Sylvia; her siblings, Barbara Barrows, Isabelle Miranda, Marlene Galvin, Margaret Perry, Eileen (Dukie) Fernandes and Ronald Galvin, all of Harwich, MA, and Annie Lyles and Roslind Galvin of Dennis. Mrs. Sylvia was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph and Edward Galvin and her sisters, Deltina Rose, Stella Perry and Josephine Perry.

Visiting hours will be in the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, Route 134, South Dennis on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 form 2-4pm and from 7-9pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Holy Trinity Church, 240 Rt. 28, W. Harwich.
