Isabel Margaret (Soucy) Reeves was born on Friday, November 13, 1931 in Attleboro, MA. She attended schools in Attleboro, MA and was married to Richard C. Reeves Sr. in 1950. They proceeded to have three children in the fifties, Richard in 1951, Anne in 1954 and Timothy in 1959. Isabel was a “stay at home Mom” which brought her immeasurable pleasure. She loved being a Mom and Homemaker and created a beautiful homelife for her family After the children were older, Isabel worked at Sturdy Memorial Hospital caring for the newborn babies in the Nursery. This was a dream job for her and she called it her favorite whenever asked.
During the early seventies, the family decided to move to East Dennis to their summer home. Although sad to leave her hospital job, she managed to find employment at the Cape working at The Colonial Gas Company in South Yarmouth, another job she enjoyed very much. She made many friendships throughout her working career that lasted many years. It was during this time, 1974, that her husband, Richard opened the “first” Marshside Restaurant and she assisted with the bookkeeping for that business. The restaurant was a great success, and she enjoyed taking care of the bookkeeping duties, but Florida was calling to Richard and they decided to retire in the sunny state. It was a bittersweet move, leaving friends and family behind, but they settled in Seminole, a small town on the West Coast. There they met and made many friends and enjoyed a brief respite, until Richard became ill. Four years after they arrived, Isabel was widowed at 55. She remained in Florida for many, many years at which time she actively participated in tennis, dancing, beach walking and many other activities the sunny, warm climate encouraged. She made long lasting friendships during this time and for someone who was afraid of being alone in the dark, she learned that living alone wasn’t so bad. It was something she was very proud of. She remained in Florida until 2016 when she moved back to E. Dennis and then lived in various communities, including, The Wingate in Brewster, Maplewood of Brewster, and most recently at the Mayflower Nursing Center in West Yarmouth, MA where she was lovingly cared for in the Chatham Wing.
She was very proud of the family she and Richard created with their three children, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and the newest great-great grandchild, Patrick who she was thrilled to meet recently.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Mayflower’s Chatham Wing and they send a special thank you to Chantel for her loving ways with Isabel, Alexis for her sweet temperament and phone calls, Richard for his tenderness when making “Izzy” pretty, Jerome for his encouraging smile everyday, Jessica for being so conscientious, Anne for her resourcefulness, and Jennifer at the desk for going above and beyond when called. We will miss every one of you for making Isabel comfortable and loved
The family also wishes to thank the girls at Continuum, especially Kristie and Ariel for their updates and care, it is greatly appreciated.
