Born in Cuba, Jay arrived in the United States when he was 21 years of age. He was so proud to come here that when he received his papers at the U.S. Embassy in Havana he rode the bus back to his parents farm with his arms wrapped around them because the “Lady at the embassy” told him not to let anything happen to them. And he never did!
Not speaking English, he worked initially in kitchens where he said “ the pots were so large he was afraid he would fall into them. He knew then this was not for him. He went to school and became a Bartender, eventually working at the Williams College Club in N.Y.C.
He met his wife, Felicia and they soon married and had a long exciting 59 years.
He was introduced to the game of golf at the age of 31 and immediately fell in love, eventually learning golf and becoming proficient enough to be a club pro at Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course in the Bronx,N.Y. Golf was truly his first love.
He was forced to give up his beloved golf course and worked for his present employers, Arnold’s Meats, for over 30 years as a salesman, again giving everything to his job.
He always put forth the best of himself in everything he did, always making sure that no one was uncomfortable.
Because of COVID we moved semi-permanently to our home on Cape Cod , where he was able to drive around in his famous Yellow Convertible, play his guitar, and conga drums and of course paint his masterpieces.
He loved his dogs, Buckie, Blondie, and of course his Tita.
He was a wonderful cook and was famous for his roast pork (lechon).
To say he will be missed is an understatement. I hope he knows how truly loved and valued he was.
Rest in peace my Love.
