John J. Rice, son of the late John and Irene Rice of Orleans, died May 8th at Cape Cod Hospital. Born in New York City 78 years ago, he and his wife Clare O’Connor-Rice moved to Brewster from Manhattan in 1993. He is survived by his brother Robert Rice and wife Elizabeth Aldred of Brewster, sons John, Christopher, Robert and James Rice all of North Carolina, and stepson Barrett Comiskey of Taipei. Growing up overlooking Yankee stadium, he was a lifelong Yankee fan. Still, his good humor and quick wit endeared him to many friends in Red Sox Nation. John loved fishing, great books, good food, entertaining friends, and fast horses. Earlier in his retirement, he loved traveling with Clare all over the world. Most of all, he loved his friends and family, including daughters-in-law Renee, Carrie, Shelley, and JoJo, and his 9 grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Brewster Fire and Rescue Association.
The family will celebrate his life at a later date.
