Muriel (née Anderson) Keegan-Glover of Yarmouth Port, formerly of New York City (1927-1954); Syosset, New York (1954-1994); and Tucson, Arizona (1994-2015). Muriel was born August 8, 1927, in New York City, grew up during—and was shaped by—the Great Depression, and graduated from John Adams High School in Ozone Park, Queens (New York) in 1945.
She married Newell Joseph Keegan in May 1951 and remained happily married until Newell’s passing in September 1998. In Syosset, Muriel raised her family and made myriad friends, volunteered in the library at South Grove Elementary School in the 1960s, and later worked as an accountant/bookkeeper for Jericho Water District from 1971-1989. Muriel moved to Tucson in 1994, later married longtime friend Harry (Ben) Glover there in January 2006, and remained happily married until Ben’s passing in December 2011.
While living in Arizona, Muriel was elected as President of the Docents at the Tucson Historical Society, served on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Historical Society, worked as a court-appointed advocate for Child Protective Services, and volunteered at Peppi’s House TMC Hospice Care. After her move to Cape Cod in 2015, Muriel was a Friday volunteer at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis and a Monday afternoon volunteer at Our Lady of the Cape Thrift Shop in Brewster. Muriel traveled the world—she spent over 300 days aboard cruises, including a 12-day trip down the Nile earlier this year—avidly followed tennis, read fiction and non-fiction with joy, supported the arts, and became an accomplished painter herself. The world is a better place for Muriel’s loves and efforts throughout her long and remarkable journey: hers was a life well lived and selflessly spent on behalf of those with whom she came in contact.
Muriel is survived by her son Kevin Newell Keegan and daughter-in-law Linda DeRuvo-Keegan of Silver Spring, Maryland, and East Dennis, Massachusetts; her daughter Ann Margaret Keegan of San Diego, California; her former son-in-law David Hahn of San Diego; her stepdaughter Derith Glover-Meyer and husband Thomas Meyer of Pembroke, Massachusetts; her stepson Jeffrey Glover of Rancho Bernardo, California; her stepdaughter Lorraine (Glover) Ray and husband Michael Ray of Tucson; her five step-grandchildren; her eight nieces and nephews and their families; and her Godson Ian Donohue of Glen Cove, New York. Muriel will be interred at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, New York, at a later date. For those who wish to honor Muriel’s life, donations may be made in her memory to the Cape Cod Museum of Art, 60 Hope Lane, Dennis, MA 02638.
