

Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel
SOUTH DENNIS, MA - Peter J. Nero, Sr. 93, of South Dennis and formerly from East Bridgewater, passed away peacefully, at his home on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. He was the loving and devoted husband of Audray E. (Arnold) Nero who he has now joined in eternal life ever after.
Born in Providence, RI on January 5, 1920 he was a son of the late Joseph and Henrietta Nero and was the oldest son of eight children. Raised and educated in Rhode Island, Mr. Nero entered the United States Army on December 23, 1948 and served honorably until his discharge from active duty on December 7, 1954. Peter remained in active reserves until December 31, 1968. Lt. Colonel Peter Nero served our country during WWII and Korea receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Ribbon and 1 O/S Bar.
Mr. Nero was employed by Sears Roebuck until he retired in 1980. During his tenure with Sears he held management positions including Operating Superintendent for the Brockton Store and General Manager of the first Sears Service Center located in Norwell, MA that was replicated nationwide. Upon retiring, Peter and his wife moved to Cape Cod where they spent their summers and wintered in Florida. Peter loved to “putter” around his yard and garden when on the Cape and enjoyed boating and fishing while in the Florida Keys. Both Peter and Audray loved to travel and enjoy life to its fullest.
Peter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. He loved his family and always put them first. He cherished the times spent with his wife, children and their families on Cape Cod and in the Florida Keys.
Peter leaves behind his children and their spouses: Peter J. Nero, Jr. and Dianne of St. Charles, Illinois; Mary Nero-Kenney and James Kenney of Mansfield; Carol Nero-Nevola and Al Nevola of Pt. St. Lucie, Florida; Paul Nero and Jules of Boise, Idaho and Thom Nero and Susan of West Palm Beach, Florida. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Loren and Peter J. Nero, III; James, Jr. and his wife Laura, and Jenna Kenney; Anala Nero; and Thomas Jr., Joseph, Christina and Angela Nero.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, South Dennis, MA. Burial will follow with military honors at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
