Richard F. Mullin, 85, of South Dennis, passed suddenly but peacefully Thursday morning, February 9, 2017 with his wife, Kathleen (Daley) Mullin, of 42 years at his side. He was born and raised in Roslindale, MA to the late Joseph James and Frances (Syberts) Mullin. Richard graduated from Roslindale High School and Wentworth Institute of Technology. In his youth, the family spent every summer and school vacations at a family ‘camp’ owned and built by Richard’s dad in Crowe’s Pasture in East Dennis. Richard valiantly served his country with the US Army 25th Infantry during the Korean War and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars. Richard was very proud of his service to his country.
Richard was a mechanical engineer who retired after 40 years of loyal service as a senior project engineer from Hollingsworth and Vose paper manufacturers in Walpole MA. He founded Sycamore Tree Service in the mid-1970s after fabricating a wood furnace to heat his entire home for 10 years. Richard and his boys trimmed, cut and split countless cords of wood. Richard (also lovingly called the ‘captain’) was an avid fisherman and bird hunter. Mullin Fish Company was another venture founded by Richard to help support the Banshee (his 21’ vessel).
Richard moved to The Cape in 1989.
